PRAISE FOR BLUE BLOODBATH
The best zombie novel ever—period! A smart, literary send up of Blueblood Boston society. Here evil scientists, greedy bankers and sexually voracious socialite cougars are hurled on fatal trajectories by an insane twist of fate. Ms.Von Kessel’s novel takes you on a hair-raising ride of apocalyptic genetic science, where survival of the fittest Darwinism is accompanied by undead gore, mayhem and a healthy dose of erotica. BLUE BLOODBATH is where literary flair, noir fiction and the zombie genre all convene.—Jean Charbonneau, author of A LOVE SUPREME
Blue Bloodbath Katrina Von Kessel
This book fails on every level. The plot is so hackneyed as to qualify as satire, the characters are uniformly one-dimensional and unlikeable, the action is stilted, the sex is badly written and unappealing, and everything is overlain with a patina of descriptive gore that could only come from a young teenage boy. It is unbelievable to me that this much awful could come together without intentional design. The only redeeming features are that it was free (and yet still a poor value) and it miraculously did not make my iPad self-destruct in flame.| Product details

Blue Bloodbath Katrina Von Kessel Reviews
I have to admit that I usually steer clear of the zombie books, but I am glad I read this one! Strong characters, original ideas, action and....zombie sex? It was definitely worth the read.
My biggest impression so far grammatically nonsensical sentences, jarring POV switches, and a sluggish pace. I'm a third of the way through and still waiting for something to happen. This book reminds me of a bad translation of a foreign novel that may have been better left alone. The science passed my (minimal) bullcrap filter - the author seemed very comfortable theory-crafting a (somewhat?) believable zombie virus. As I personally find science mind-numbingly boring, it's sad when I consider it the strongest part of the book. A good first effort on the author's part, but be advised, this book is not for everyone.
Although sci-fi reading usually isn't my cup of tea, I could not put down Blue Bloodbath. Von Kessel's story line is gripping and the dialogue between characters is witty and funny and whip smart. It is Von Kessel's especially keen ability to set a scene that makes this book a must read. Set in Boston, the descriptions of major city landmarks makes you feel right like you're right in the center of the Hub. Without taking itself too seriously, Blue Bloodbath proves to be the right blend of light-hearted reading and thrilling zombie movie.
A new twist on the zombie novel. Normally I like my zombies on the screen but this one was a blisteringly fast peel of hot gripping fun, and smart too, it keeps the brain engaged. Everything you want in a zombie novel plus a whole gut-load of twists and turns and intrigues. Genetic modification, vaccination scares, financial scheming, class warfare, rugby players in Samurai gear scrumming through a zombie infested Boston---this book's got it all. Pure genius!
Not to diss Colson Whiteheads's "Zone One", but I liked this one much better. Blue Bloodbath is faster, more intriguing, and more viscerally gut wrenching. This Von Kessel can write! If you are on the zombie train, and like smart fun fiction, my advice is Do NOT miss this book.
Never would have thought I'd like a zombie murder story but this was fantastically written and the characters have stayed with me long after I finished the book. If you love really well crafted literature and also love zombies, this is the book for you. If you don't love zombies, you should read it anyway just to surprise yourself.
I really enjoyed this book. It breaks away from the average story of a spreading infection for a couple of reasons it is deliberate, and it is capitalized on by selfish vultures. At the same time, the evil mastermind, a blueblood, has an evil vision of a new world based on a crazy new genetic scheme--and the new-bloods have unexpected and bizarre powers that throw everything into chaos. And yet...ok, no spoilers. Cool book Definitely worth the read (and the $8.00). It is a literary book yet is also a zombie book of its own kind. Hard to dole out praise like this, but I suspect that with time and a couple more reads it could become my favorite zombie book of all. I hope there is a sequel.
Let's get this on the record; I am not a huge fan of gore, brutal violence, or gross and somewhat gratuitous sex in books. But I am a recent convert to zombies, and was intrigued by the idea of aristocratic Boston society being caught up in a zombie outbreak, so bit on this book. And yes, the story has tons of gore, violence, and the above described sex - but it is also smart. Along with the standard zombie fare of the spreading horrors of outbreak, the small band of brothers against the zombie horde, and the requisite sacrificial hero, the author manages to provoke serious thought - and some real concerns on my part - on modern issues such as class warfare, genocide, vaccinations and financial manipulation of the markets. All done in a wry sendup, with a really great villain and nonstop, suspense building action. I only had one note of dissatisfaction with the read; when I finished the last few pages, the story just did not wrap up satisfactorily for me. Since other reviewers haven't mentioned it, must be a personal problem. And when you are facing the end of the world as you know it, there isn't really a good stopping point along the way, is there? But that dissatisfaction is the reason for my rating....
